tmargalit
I have an HP SMART ARRAY E200/128 8 Port SAS controller and I wonder if it will work with unRaid. At the moment I have unRAID Server Pro running with 2 x Adaptec 1430SA PCI-E 4-lane SATA controller cards and I would like to replace one of the adaptec cards with the HP one. Here is a link to the card. I have the one with the 128MB and the BBWC. http://h71028.www7.hp.com/ERC/downloads/4AA0-6220ENW.pdf Thanks. Tal Quote Link to comment
erikatcuse
Hi The short answer is it depends. I took a look at http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Home.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=1157688&submit.y=0&submit.x=0〈=en&cc=us And can't find a firmware that changes the card to just controller. With that if this card will do JBOD it will depend on how the disk information is passed to unraid. Right now I have a LSI 8 port SAS raid card http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=3109.0 and unraid can see the drives but can't control them. The card I have is passing the drives over as JBOD but with a SCSI identifier which unraid can't see. Tom is going to fix this in the next beta version as its a small bug. I would recommend installing Joe L.'s unmenu.awk that's how I was able to see the disks. And then just try the card. Prefferably with a Hard drive that doesn't have any data on it. Basically I took one of my drive out of the array and added it to the new card. Rebooted and used unmenu to see if it was there and it was. From there the troubleshooting began and it was found out about the scsi identifier bug. Now if your array can't see the drive more than likely the card either doesn't have a driver in unraid (most likely) or it doesn't support JBOD. It could be possible to add the driver to unraid but I wouldn't be the one to ask. Erik Quote Link to comment
tmargalit
erikatcuse, Thanks for the great reply. I guess I will have to see if I can find one SATA drive laying around and test it on my unRaid server. When I get the time, I will post my results back here. Thanks again, Tal Quote Link to comment
