Plex gains 'root access' to your server / How to sandbox Plex?

Featured Replies

Let me describe my situation: I have two unraid boxes in my network, unraid 1 and unraid 2. Until now only unraid1 had a Plex media server (PMS) installed. Today I installed a instance of PMS on unraid2. On unraid 2 I accessed the PMS web interface and added PMS/unraid 1 as source for a new library (+ sign next to the name of unraid1).  When it gave me a file browser to select the media folder, I could see the hole root file structure on unraid1 and could click myself through all folders on unraid1, including folders that were not shared for privacy/safety reasons.

I consider this a extreme security flaw. And I guess it is about the user rights with which PMS/unraid1 is running.

This is not limited to PMS on unraid, I also could access the whole file tree on my Synology DiskStation with a standard installation of PMS running on the Synology.

Therefore my question is, how can I sandbox PMS on my unraid boxes, so that they can only access folders, e.g. movies? And not the hole file trees on all servers running plex!

Best,

Nelo
