[SOLVED] HORRIFIED.... I just downloaded the newest version of UNRAID and...

I followed the instructions on the front page (i'm not a pro at this and I don't have a lot of plugins or anything it just runs and runs smoothly - most of the time) and I wasn't really thinking assuming that oh yeah the instructions won't lead me wrong and I just formatted my flash drive.

Now I've got back and installed the new info, put unmenu on and I am scared to hell about what to do next...

I don't remember which drives were in which order.  I know which drive was my parity drive, but what if I start up my server and all of my data is gone now because the flash doesn't recognise things?  This is the first time I've upgraded and I'm just so worried that I've screwed up somehow.  Can someone please put my mind at ease and tell me that the hard drives know what they're supposed to know and when I start it up it will be okay?

For some reason it doesn't seem to be showing all of my drives or I'm just not reading it correctly.  They all say "new drive" or something.  I am so worried here!

I can't seem to attach my syslog... it says it's too big? 990kb is that normal? HELP!

Use zip to zip the log up first unless that 990kb WAS the zipped version.  Will let others help with your real problem here - sorry.

Ahhh thanks.... here it is

As an extra aside, it seems to only want to let me ad three disks to the array... I don't understand!?

Probably because you deleted your .key when you reformatted your drive.

Probably because you deleted your .key when you reformatted your drive.

So what do I do to fix it??

I think those installation instructions are crazy bogus... they should be scrapped :/  I should have gone onto the forum and made sure I double checked but I didn't.  More the fools me.

Okay.... assuming you were on at least version 5.0 before you wiped out your USB key, you have no real risk of losing data - especially if you know which is your parity drive.

As eroz mentioned, when you reformatted you likely wiped out your Plus or Pro key, which is why you are only seeing 3 drives.

Am I correct in assuming you did not back up your USB key before reformatting? If so, then your instructions are going to a bit different than if you have the backup.

Since they key is tied to the USB GUID hopefully you can either copy it back from your backup, or retrieve the email from Tom with the key. If you can't even do this, then use the GUI to find the GUID and send Tom an email requesting he resend you the key.

Once you have the GUI up with the Plus or Pro key you can start re-assigning drives. If you know which is parity then set that first, and the others can be in any order - it doesn't matter. Just make 100000% sure you know which is your parity drive (and cache drive if you had one).

If you are positive, then re-assign the drives and you can restart the array.

If there is any doubt whatsoever that you don't know which was the parity drive (i.e. 0.00000000001%) then DO NOT start the array and mention that and we can suggest other steps to help

Ahhhh.... PHEW!!!!

I see that makes sense... the key!

I don't know if I still have the email, I probably don't and I will have to email Tom.

Can someone please tell me where to find the GUID??  I've looked through the info pages.

I definitely know which one is my parity drive, I spent some extra to buy a Hitachi for that purpose.

Stress has become less!!!

on the main web interface.  Find your flashdrive, click on the word flash on the left hand side.  or enter this into your browser. just replace with the ip address of your server.

http://192.168.1.5/Main/Flash?name=flash

click on the flash text in the boot device tab and it will show you your GUID

Must have sent this at the same time, at least you will be able to find it now.

First, get your key from Tom.

Second, add it to the flash drive.

Now boot to UnRAID and, if you're ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN you know which drive is parity, assign all of the other drives as data drives (but do NOT assign the parity drive) and Start the array.    Confirm that everything looks okay -- browse the contents of the drives to be sure.    THEN Stop the array, assign the parity drive, and Start it again ... and let it do a parity sync.    When the parity sync completes, do a parity check to confirm all went well.    Done  :)

If you have ANY doubt about which drive is parity, assign ALL of the drives as data drives and Start the array.  The drive that shows as Unformatted is your parity drive.    Do a New Config, and this time assign everything correctly -- then do the parity sync followed by a check.
