July 18, 201411 yr hello i bought a 2tb wd ears af disk for cheap. in my unraid setup im using 8 of my sata slots with 8 disks. 1x 2tb parity 5x 2tb data drives 1x 750gb data + 500gb cache disk. now as u can guess i want to preclear the new 2tb disk and change the 750gb drive with it. but 2 problems comes to my mind; first problem is i dont have any more sata plugs left in mobo. (maybe i can remove the cache temporarily for preclear?) second problem is the new disk is my first advanced format disk and as i check the forum ears disks are the problem child of unraid. all my other disks in the working unraid array is normal disks none af. can smo please instruct me the right steps for getting an AF disk ready for array and help me replace that with my old 750gb disk? finishing notes; (using unraid 5.0.5, emptied the 750gb data disk in the array, updated my preclear script to 1.15, in unraid disk settings "Default partition format:" is mbr 4k alligned, was using preclear_disk.sh -c 3 /dev/sdxx command before now i will only need to add -A right?, now im running the parity check and searching for my pci-e x1 2 port sata card it may help me tomorrow or may slow me down not sure or as an afterthought what if i prepare a new free unraid flash disk and use it in my laptop plug the new hdd via e-sata port and preclear it there? would it work that would help me a lot) thanks in advance : )
