ntrlsur
Have you tried updating the Bios on the card? I wonder if an out of date bios could be the issue.. Quote Link to comment
ToXIc
i believe its from 4/2014 Quote Link to comment
ToXIc
@limetech tried the latest 6.0-beta9 and unfortunately cant see any drives.. did you get my email with the latest drivers from Areca? i ran: modprobe arcmsr cp /var/log/syslog /boot/syslog.txt and attached the syslog syslog.txt Quote Link to comment
earthworm
I'm still using unRaid 5 with my Areca 1170 and my syslog shows the following line: Sep 14 15:59:38 Storage1 kernel: scsi1 : Areca SATA Host Adapter RAID Controller( RAID6 capable) Does your card show up in a Windows OS? ToXIc
i haven't tried to load it into a windows environment.. however i can see it in the BIOS and also Web interface.. Quote Link to comment
earthworm
I don't do a lot of Linux troubleshooting. I learn as needed. It seems unRaid doesn't detect the card. I tried 'modprobe arcmsr' and get the same response you do. The lsmod command should list arcmsr and modinfo arcmsr does confirm it's the correct driver for our cards. Quote Link to comment
ToXIc
on post 13 it shows that it see the card... right? or am i mistaken Quote Link to comment
earthworm
What command did you use to generate that list? What's the response from lsmod? Quote Link to comment
ToXIc
i haven't tried the lsmod command.. i'll run it this evening and let you know Quote Link to comment

earthworm
I realized that, after, on my server without Dynamix installed. Dynamix does not provide that screen/info. So it seems unRAID is not initializing your card properly. In your "Advanced Configuration" screen you have an option called "BIOS Selection". Have you tried any other options here? My card does not have that option. Quote Link to comment
ToXIc
sorry for the late reply.. there are 4 options.. i'll list them when i get home.. so every other setting mostly match yours? Quote Link to comment
ToXIc
The 4 BIOS options are Legacy INT13 UEFI EFI Disabled i've tried all 4 options got nothing.. also here are the 3 JBOD/RAID config options RAID JBOD Cached IO JBOD Direct IO Quote Link to comment
earthworm
I've attached a screenshot for comparison. My drives are configured as "RAID Set" (Raid0 single drive) automatically when I plug them in. I have a much older controller with older firmware but I just purchased a ARC-1280ML so I'll see how that works in a new server I'm building. Quote Link to comment

ToXIc
just slapped a drive into the rig and loaded up windows to test. after installing the drivers for the card it found the drives in Raid and JBOD modes and was able to format etc. @limetech do i have to load the unRaid drivers (link below) or is it already installed in the unRaid OS?? http://www.areca.com.tw/support/s_unRAID/unRAID.htm Quote Link to comment

To create a raid set the card have to be in Raid mode, the option is greyed out in JBOD mode.. still didnt show drives in unRaid so i looked at the section to create a volume set but that only showed Raid0 nothing like JBOD Quote Link to comment
