July 21, 201411 yr hello im in the hunt for a cheap unraid compatible card for more sata disks. found this old fujitsi LSI1068 MB D2507-A11 card locally online for 50 usd. it may be a lsi 1068e based card which is well supported in unraid as i cheked the forums here. but im not sure what card it is since its fujitsu rebranded and looks weird when i cross check the pictures with the other 1068e cards. can it be an old 1068 card and not good enough? i know the card wont work with more then 2tb disks but thats ok i have 8 2tb disks in my unraid build now. i cant find much info for the card maybe smo here can help me in the attachements the fujitsu cards picture and here the other 1068e chipset ibm and intel card example the card im about to buy looks very different : ( shall i go for it and buy this or just keep hunting? the main attraction is it will come to me fast and as cheap as ebay overseas alternatives. thanks in advance
July 21, 201411 yr Author found some more info on fujitsu site : ) http://manuals.ts.fujitsu.com/illustrated_spares/content/TX150_S6/detail.htm?id=179 will it work for unraid?
July 21, 201411 yr Your last link says it is a 1068 based LSI controller. I believe I have seen posts here on these forums that indicate a 1068 based controller will only support drives up to 2TB. So if you are looking to use larger drives I would find a newer controller.
July 21, 201411 yr Author yes i know the limitation its ok for me as i have 8x 2tb drives as of now im just curious if i can just get this card and set it up for unraid without much problems all those confusion about ir it modes crossflashing bioses and such worries me
July 21, 201411 yr Author from pictures looks like a lsi SAS 8208ELP version without heatsink to me i can just add a heatsink if thats all
July 21, 201411 yr Sorry but I posted all I know. Hopefully someone else can advise you since you don't need > 2TB drives.
July 21, 201411 yr Author it would be better to get a new and faster 2tb+ supported card for me i know but i cant find any good deals on ebay and i cant find good deals locally. the shipping costs and the customs limitation screws me to be honest. or else i would hunt those ibm 1015 and such cards also. for now i just want a short term solution to expand on the cheap and fast : )
July 21, 201411 yr ... all those confusion about ir it modes crossflashing bioses and such worries me If you're concerned about the card, don't buy it. Not worth the potential headache just to save a few $$. Spend a few more $$ and get a new card like the SuperMicro SAS2LP-MV8 ... no concerns about flashing it; supports > 2TB drives; etc. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816101792
July 21, 201411 yr Author i cant mate i live in istanbul city / turkey not in states and now they have this new stupid customs limit 75 eur maximum limit including shipping or they want %20 of the total cost as tax fee : ( so i must find a card near 100usd with shipping included. cant find any cards on ebay worth waiting for im checking ibm 1015 dell perc h200 lsi ones and such cards with the newer chipsets but no avail all are expensive and i will still have to wait them for like 3 weeks...
July 22, 201411 yr Did you check the alternatives? You will most likely have to crossflash the card but I can't tell you if it will work. I know that the D2607 from FSC is not fully functional after a crossflash. Maybe it's a bad habit of FSC to cripple cards like that? If you want to take the risk to try it out, please come back and report your findings with that card (although it's obsolete and almost nobody will want one in their unRAID nowadays). Good luck!
July 22, 201411 yr Author thank you yes i checked the alternatives found some candidates on ebay and im in contact with them about shipping. found dell perc h200 and h310 near 100 usd. and yes the fujitsu cards looks like cripled all over dunno why look at the card i found no other similar chipsetted card from other brands has less components. the cards entire backside is empty, no ram not even a heatsink lol oh well.. saw the newer fujitsu cards crossflash problem also 1 SSF-8087 is disabled ouch! i wanted that old 1068e card just to play around, experiment and test it was cheap enough and was local so i could get it in 1-2 days. hell im not even sure if any sas card will work or even boot in my mainboard. thats why i thought i shall need a cheap experience to be honest : ) it would suck if i get my hands on a new card and see that i need to change my mainboard for that. im using a standard consumer grade ASUS P8P67 PRO (REV 3.1) mobo btw just for its expansion possibility over the pcie slots but im not sure anything will work on it. anyway im in no rush i can just keep hunting. found my old jmicron pcie x1 2 port card and verified it working good with unraid. at worst case i can just get more of these cheap cards and expand slowly till i find a good sas card solution. the mobo gives me 8 slots +2 esata (possible abuse for unraid?) 3 pcie x1 and 2 pcie x8 slots. it will take long time for me to fill all those slots with disks so no rushing i guess. but then again i may get that old cheap rotting in a shelf card and try to give it a new life just for the fun of it no one wants its it gets no love kinda sad
