Cheap cards that support SATA III?

Featured Replies

As the title states, I'm really just looking for a cheap card to provide one or two additional ports that can support SATAIII speeds. I currently have 8 drives in my server and would like to add an SSD as a cache drive. I don't see it as wise to spend $100+ on a RAID controller and never use the RAID functionality, and since the majority of my drives are under 2TB, I'll eventually be replacing drives with ones of much larger capacity and no longer need 8 ports so this card I see as only using for a year or so.

Any suggestions on a SATA III expansion card that plays friendly with unRAID?

I tossed in a 3ware SAS card I had lying around but it doesn't play well with unRAID and can't be flashed to just an "IT" mode.

One suggestion for a 2-port SATA3:

SYBA SY-PEX40039

It is an inexpensive PCIe x1 2-port SATA3 card.  Can be had for under $10 when they go on sale from time to time.
