johnny121b
Just finished a 3-cycle preclear (~3 days) on a 2Tb Hitachi drive, and unlike every other preclear I've done, to-date on about 15 drives, THIS ONE had reallocated sectors... Is this bad? No SMART attributes are FAILING_NOW 2 sectors were pending reallocation before the start of this preclear 50 sectors were pending reallocation after pre-read in cycle 1 of 3 0 sectors were pending reallocation after zero of disk in cycle 1 of 3 29 sectors were pending reallocation after post-read in cycle 1 of 3 0 sectors were pending reallocation after zero of disk in cycle 2 of 3 11 sectors were pending reallocation after post-read in cycle 2 of 3 0 sectors were pending reallocation after zero of disk in cycle 3 of 3 4 sectors are pending reallocation at the end of the preclear a change of 2 in the number of sectors pending reallocation 13 sectors had been reallocated before the start of the preclear 36 sectors are reallocated at the end of the preclear a change of 23 in the number of sectors pending reallocation Quote Link to comment
SSD
Not good. Is this a new our used disk? The absolute values are not bad, but usually when things start to go bad they just keep getting worse. Might want to try another few preclear cycles. If it stabilizes you may be ok, but if not you want to return it if possible. Quote Link to comment
c3
If this drive is under warrant, get it replaced. If you really want to use it, run more preclear cycles until pending reallocation is 0, and the number of reallocated sectors does not change. aka "Clear it or Kill it". I suspect this drive is older with plenty of hours on it, not worth the hassle. Quote Link to comment
