Flash Storage

Featured Replies

Hey Tom (my PM posted per Tom's request for general benefit of all):

Did you perchance think about my ? re: storing "My Movies - database/thumbnails" on the Flash?  Seems like a way to peruse the movie database w/o "spinning-up" the drives.  With the Flash Drives being larger & larger, it starts to make some sense (to me) to have a directory on the Flash that would tell me what my list of movies is/are.  The same essentially would also go for Music etc.

Thoughts as to the best way to implement this strategy?

{PS - I have attempted to do this but still need to configure the UNC and proper data files - according to MyMovies creator (binnerup) it should be simply viewed as a "Server" which describes my UnRaid  8).  The trick is to secondarily point the selected file/Movie to the correct disk (or Movies/Music Share).  FYI - the entire MyMovies sub-directory from windows w/all my 60+ movies & images + data & database totalled ~ 15MB (not much on a 512MB Flash).}

Posted this before but it got lost in the ether:

Assuming you're using Windows for your media client end, how about putting shortcuts on the flash to the actual films and point your client at the directory on your flash?  That should solve the problem?  You get to see the list without spinning up the drives and when you select the shortcut, it should actually go and get the actual film?

Worth a try.

Matt :)
