August 1, 201411 yr has anyone tried to use this card? it is apparently a lsi sas 2008 chipset in IT mode. it only has external connections. unlike the dell perc h200, which is the same card apparently running IR firmware and has 2x internal ports i’ve had a look and you can get sff-8808 cables to 4x sata, it would just mean it would have to go through an open pci slot in the case to get back inside.
August 1, 201411 yr Sorry, but can you post the name or a link to the dell website so we know what you are talking about?
August 3, 201411 yr Author that is exactly what it is called http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=342-0910 http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/pvaul/en/dell-6gbps-sas-ita-spec-sheet.pdf
August 4, 201411 yr Thanks, apparently it is a plain HBA (IT) with the SAS2008 chipset. http://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/04/campaigns/dell-raid-controllers I'm pretty sure it will work but it has not yet been tested/confirmed! I also had a look at those external cards but I found the cables add to much to the overall cost and it's more reasonable to stay with the internal solutions. You might want to run the numbers for your case! If you go with this card, please report back with your findings for our database. Tell us if SMART, temps, spindown works as well. Good luck!
