Support for Multiple File Systems - Pass 2

Permit formatting array devices with these file systems:

 

- Reiserfs (default)

- btrfs (as single device only)

- xfs

- NTFS

- HFS+

- ext2/3/4

 

Also, recognize any MBR/GPT layout.  This will let you form an array using devices from say, a windows PC, and retain the data.  If one such device fails, parity-reconstruct will be able to completely re-create the content of the device.

 

There are some implications as well:

- Only one partition will be "mounted", but user will be able to specify which one.

- All top-level directories will still be treated as 'shares' automatically.  This might require the user to rename and/or move top-level directories.

Will non-mounted partitions still be parity protected and rebuildable? (doesn't sound like it)

 

Will you be able to access the non-protected portion by mounting it outside the array?

Yes.  The entire device will be parity protected and rebuildable.

Wow, this is great! I was using RC1 6.1, but could not add an NTFS drive to the array. Did I overlook anything or was this feature moved to a later release?

Only RFS, XFS, btrfs currently supported for array or cache disks.

I believe that this is still a Roadmap item, but it is no longer tied to being 6.1 or 6.2.  The Roadmap section of the forum is no longer representative of the release number in which they might appear.
