August 7, 201411 yr I would like my friend to access Transmission on my server so that they can download stuff that they need without me doing anything.. 1. how would they do that? to access my transmission? 2. is it possible to create a new transmission just for them to use instead of using my current settings? 3. i dont have static ip so how would we go around that?
August 7, 201411 yr Do you want your friend on another network to use the transmission application running on your network to download to their network? Why not just have them run transmission on their own network? Maybe I didn't understand what you are asking.
August 8, 201411 yr Author They don't have a server to run transmission. I want others to access my transmission so they can upload stuff (and be able to view my plex stuff) without having to have their own server/computer running 24/7 - I don't want to be selfish
September 8, 201411 yr I do this, its really very easy but you need to do some setup first. you will need a static IP or dynamic DNS service for this to truly work. if you have a D-Link router they have a free service for this. Alternately most routers have a setup for this. transmission's port default is 9091. have your router route port 45646 to 9091 on your unraid IP. You can pick any external port you want, doesn't have to be 45646. Then get your friend to point his browser to http://your.external.ip.address:45646 and you're done! If it doesn't work, make sure you don't require a username/pass for RPC and you don't have a whitelist established within the transmission.conf file on the server.
