August 8, 201411 yr I bought a Syba SI-PEX40064 from eBay as I'd run out of SATA ports on my ASUS Z87-C motherboard. I can't seem to get it going. My new WD drive doesn't seem to come up in the BIOS either. Being a pretty new motherboard I would have thought it should be compatible. I'll be trying it in another machine over the weekend but I was wondering if I'm missing something obvious? A BIOS PCI-E setting perhaps? Has anyone else had anything like this with SATA expander cards? Thanks!
August 8, 201411 yr Any drives attached to the addon card probably wont be seen in the motherboard BIOS screens, the card may or may not have its own BIOS which would appear during POST. Is the card detected by unraid?
August 11, 201411 yr Author Didn't see anything different during POST. As to whether Unraid is picking it up properly. I did an lspci but didn't see anything there that looked like the card. Is there another way? Since my forum post I tried the card in a Windows machine and nothing new/unrecognised came up in Device Manager either. I didn't see anything different in the POST of that machine either...
August 11, 201411 yr Seems fair to say you have a defective card. There's nothing special you have to do to use this with either Windows or UnRAID. Unless you happen to have disabled the unused PCIe slots on your motherboards (unlikely), then the card should simply be detected and work fine. Are you CERTAIN you've got it firmly seated when you're installing it? If so, the card is simply bad.
August 11, 201411 yr Author I tried it in 2 PCI-e slots in my Unraid server and another two slots in the Windows box. Surely between those 4 it would have shown up. I'd say dodgy card. RMA time Thanks for your help!
