March 5, 200917 yr Hello! I am "in the process" of setting up my first unRAID machine. I am currently running unRAID 4.4.2. So far everything has been fine. Currently there are 2+1 (parity) drives in the unRAID array, and I have transferred a LOT of data back and forth betwwen the unRAID machine and my Vista machine, doing binary file comparisons and so on. Not a single bit failure. I have executed file transfers from my Windows Vista machine onto the unRAID array using both the disk shares directly, as well as using the user shares. And there have been no problems with either. So after having transferred quite a few files last night, I switched on my Popcorn Hour A-100 device and decided to add and test the unRAID user shares from there. I added the following network share on the Popcorn Hour: smb://tower/HD-Movies I then went to 'Media sources' and selected that network share. The Popcorn Hour box then started working, but finally gave up with a 'Request cannot be processed' message. Then it was impossible to get "back" in the main menu of the Popcorn Hour, and even after rebooting it was stuck with the same message. I had to remove the network cable before rebooting to be able to get into the main menu again. I then tried changing the network share on the Popcorn, using the IP-address instead: smb://10.0.0.110/HD-Movies But with the same result. I then tried the 'Network browser' on the Popcorn Hour, showing the Workgroup, which when entered showed both the name of my Windows Vista machine, as well as 'TOWER'. I selected TOWER, and then all of the disk and user shares appeared. I selected HD-Movies , but with the same result as above ('request cannot be processed' ) After yet another reboot, trying the Network Browser once again, I then selected the disk1 disk share, and I was successfully able to browse my media files. So the problem seems to be with accessing user shares from the Popcorn Hour device. Direct disk shares however work ok. Any ideas, anyone? (up until now I have never had any network or network share issues/problems with my Popcorn Hour device - that is, when accessing Windows XP/Windows Vista SMB shares ) UPDATE: There were NO new entries in the unRAID syslog after all my problematic attempts of using the user shares from the Popcorn device.
March 5, 200917 yr I've got unRAID 4.4.2 working flawlessly with a Popcorn A-110 so it does and should work for you, although this doesn't help you much. Firstly, I would suggest using NFS over SMB, you will find it runs quicker through the already slow menu system. Try them and see if you have any luck? Secondly, are you on the latest firmware for the Popcorn Hour? I haven't used SMB shares by adding the shares via their name, however the Network Browser works fine for me.
March 5, 200917 yr I use the A-100 successfully with unRAID SMB shares added by name (smb://NAS/Movies). Sometimes I have to soft reboot the Popcorn Hour to get it to read the share, but otherwise it works just fine. Try creating a new share name and see what happens.
March 5, 200917 yr Hi, i use the unRaid server also with my A-100. Works fine! Maybe you should change the name from HD-Movies to HDMovies ?? by
March 5, 200917 yr Author Thank you all for your replies so far. Just returned from work to do some more testing (the initial testing was done right before I went to work this morning). Renaming the user share was the first I tried without any success I am afraid. (and yes, I did restart the array. In fact, I even tested rebooting the unRAID machine ). Then I proceeded making some new user shares, an just copying a few small files into them. First I set the user share up with 1 disk, and then with 2 disks. And guess what: it works ! But my "original" user share with LOTS of HD movie files still does not work. Another strange thing though, is that this morning I also had another user share which did not work, called Barnefilmer (Norwegian for Children's movies ). I was not able to browse that user share, but I was able to browse into that directory using the direct disk share. When I returned home from work, the first thing I did was to reboot the unRAID machine. And after that I was able to also browse the Barnefilmer user share. So, that might lead one to think that a reboot or at least a restart of the array might be necessary for use share browsing. But the "mystery" with my HDMovies user share still remains. I think i am going to create a new user share, and slowly move data across from the problematic directory, testing before and after each data move if it's still available for use share browsing... UPDATE: After doing some "clean up" (removing special chars in movie directory names and so on) as well as removing an old index.htm file (which was pointing to an empty jukebox directory ) which was created for the Popcorn Hour YAMJ (Yet Another Movie Plugin) plugin - the user share suddenly started working !
