Issue with foreign file name

Featured Replies

Whenever I have an issue in copying a file from mac to the server, I can't delete it from mac side.

This is a real pain.  I have to login to the server and delete the file there.

I also just noticed that a foreign file name are all broken from the server.

It seems that the server is not supporting unicode characters.

Anybody has a solution to fix this problem?

Thanks.

Am I the only one who has this problem?

What unRAID version?

It is v5.0.4.

Is it all files or just those with unicode?  You could try 6.0b6.

It is just files with unicode.

Do you by any chance have a link how to upgrade?  Thanks.

As long as you aren't using any plugins the upgrade procedure used the same as upgrading a 5x release.

I have upgrade my unRAID to unRAIDServer-6.0-beta7-x86_64 and the unicode characters are still all broken.

Do I need to change locale from LANG=en_US.UTF-8 to the appropriate language?

Also, is there a command to show the version number of unRAID OS?

Also, is there a command to show the version number of unRAID OS?

It is shown in the GUI.

You can find out in a telnet/console session using

ct /etc/unraid-version

Both unRAID v5 and v6 support UTF-8 encoding.

What application are you using to do the copying ?

What application are you using to do the copying ?

I don't use application.  I use "ls" command from unRAID server.

Is there any application I should use?

The only task that I want to use is to delete a file from unRAID server since I can not delete it from mac side whenever there is an error in copying.

This means that any application that capable of showing unicode from unRAID would be fine with me.

Even though I upgrade my unRAID to unRAIDServer-6.0-beta7-x86_64, when I type "cat /etc/unraid-version" is

version=5.0.4

Shouldn't this be 6.0.* something?

You stated that you copy files from your MAC to unRAID. Are you using file sharing for that (SMB, AFP or NFS) or perhaps a FTP application (I presume not).

Using the supported file sharing methods of unRAID, foreign characters (=UTF-8) encoding is preserved. This assumes that your MAC is also supporting UTF-8 (unicode).

Definitely - mine shows "version=6.0-beta7".  Are you sure you have rebooted the system since copying the replacement v6 files onto the USB stick?

I am using SMB now and there is no problem of unicode from mac side.  Only problem is when there is an error in copying and I can not delete it from mac.

Only way is to delete it from unRAID side and the unicode is not supported from unRAID side.  That is the problem!

Is there a GUI from unRAID side for copying files from mac to unRAID using SMB?
