[DEPRECATED] Apcupsd Plugin for V6

This is super awesome news. I wasn't sure if the NIS server was on by default or if I had to go configure it! I'll try to get this working and report back! Again thanks for the awesome support!

Be sure to use the latest version of the apcupsd plugin.  I've changed some of the configuration fields and you might have trouble with earlier versions.

Got it working with no problem and was able to test the shutdown command on the ethernet connected machine with a simulated power failure (pulled the plug).  Worked as intended.

Some tips for others who wish to do this.

1) Make sure your slave machine is set to shutdown earlier then the master. If the master shuts down first then the slave won't shut down.

2) Additionally your router/switch needs to be connected to a battery backed source, as it's critical to the shutdown process.

Addtional note I recived an pop-up in the webgui telling me I was on battery power, and also that batter power was restored. This is awsome. Suprisingly I did not recieve emails for these notices... If I recall this is being worked on and is an issue of the new dynamic webgui, and not apcupsd.

Thanks again for the support!

Nope I'm being dumb it probly is working correctly (I am getting test emails), when I pulled the plug my modem went down as it's not on battery backup just UPS pass through (might want to change this in the future)... obviously with no internet connection unraid can't send email.  ::) Wonder why it took me so long to figure that out.

Is there a log or something I can look at to determine if it tried to send but failed? I didn't see that in the notice history.

I have it set as broswer + email right now but if I put it to email only will I get a attempt to send notice failed log in the notice history?

My experience is that they probably work with g-mail.  My e-mail provider will not accept the message for transmission because the mail header is saying that the mail is being send by root@Rose and that is not a valid e-mail address because 'Rose' is not a valid domain name.  (Apparently, the sending address should be something like [email protected].  Many e-mail provides have this type of requirement to prevent their mail servers from being used to send spam!)

Yes, indeed, most pf the openly public providers (gmail, yahoo, etc) have to do this.

I have my own domain, hosted on a paid-for server, with ssl login.  This service does allow the mails out, even if they do take a short cut back to my incoming mail!

It's in the system log.  There is no other notification of a failed email that I know of.

Slightly off topic, but where/how do you host your own email server?

These statuses will show:

'ONLINE TRIM' will show 'UPS: Online(trim)

'ONLINE BOOST' will show 'UPS: Online(boost)

This way you can tell if the voltage is being trimmed or boosted and the online status will show properly.

UPS Status Page has been reformatted.

Okay, but it is still treated as an error condition (sort of) because, although the status is shown in green rather than red, the other items of information are omitted from the top line: see attachment.

A new version of apcupsd is available that fixes the status when the ups is in trim or boost.  Apcupsd will be included in the next beta release of V6.  I will implement these changes after the next beta is released.  This will take care of the problem for the short term until the next beta release.

Mine is in TRIM condition at the moment (256V on a nominal 230V line!) - I can confirm that the fix is working.  Many, many thanks.  I wait for a BOOST condition, but I'm sure it will be fine.

I'm also awaiting delivery of my free upgrade to a Back-UPS Pro 1200 (BR1200GI) and hope that fixes other issues I have been experiencing.

Hi,

Just want to ask if anyone has this plugin running with another UPS (not ACP)? Just want to confirm if it may work with mine (Riello). Riello Powershield has several plugins for linux, I was wondering if one of them may be worth to try (http://www.riello-ups.es/downloads/1-powershield)...

I wait for your opinions.

Rgds.

Well, the standard plug-in works with certain (if not all) Cyperpower UPS.  It really depends on whether the manufacturer decided to make it look like it was a APC UPS as far as the USB interface goes.  Personally, I have never heard of Riello.  If you want to find out if it works, install the plugin and connect the UPS to your server through the USB linkup.  It won't hurt any thing to try...

Your question is a bit unusual as most people are usually asking BEFORE they buy a UPS!

Well, Riello was not recognized. Thx anyway.

Any specific APC you would recommend for my unraid setup (18 disks)?

Did you try all of the various options under UPS Cable and UPS type?

Only this last option is giving some output for the UPS variable instead of showing "lost communication". I don´t know what this means. Also, if I change any of the options under "UPS cable" I get the same output (with the exception of "custom").

Let me know what you think.

Rgds.

No idea.  I knew it was just worth a shot

The last choice you made is for a networked master slave arrangement.  Be sure you are using a good USB port.  Try another USB port.

Hi, I will try all my usb ports. Is there a way to test them? Any specific parameter to look for?

Also, what should the plugin report after status:runinng ...in Ups:___?

Yes.

I don't know how you can test the USB ports except to just try them.

Hi, I cannot make it work. I will go the easy route and buy an APC ups.

I am looking for this model  http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/CLII-9CTP29/CLII-9CTP29_R0_EN.pdf?sdirect=true. Which one would you recommend for running unraid (up to 16 disks + 2 ssd)?

Rgds.

You do realize that these are for 220 volt mains and 220 volt output.  (I realize that you might be outside of NA.)  In any case either one should be able to do the job unless you want to run the server more then five minutes on battery.  These smaller units basically all use the same battery so the ones with larger power ratings have shorter run times with higher wattage loads.  The 1100VA unit has will run longer then the 800VA unit as it has the dual batteries with 14.4 Ah compared with 9 Ah for the 800.  But the battery replacement cost will also be higher!
