February 3, 201511 yr Thx Frank, yep, I thought about the fact that replacing the 2 batteries will cost more. Actually I asked for the price of a similar ups (2 batteries) and it costs the same as a new ups. I live in Spain Rgds.
February 4, 201511 yr Hi, I cannot make it work. I will go the easy route and buy an APC ups. I am looking for this model http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/CLII-9CTP29/CLII-9CTP29_R0_EN.pdf?sdirect=true. Which one would you recommend for running unraid (up to 16 disks + 2 ssd)? Rgds. I would give a caution on the BX models! I purchased a BX1100 around ten months ago, to replace an older CS650 which had given sterling service (it still powers my router and a Raspberry Pi - five years old and only on its second battery). The BX1100 units (I had four altogether) would prompt for battery replacement after around two to three months - APC swapped the entire unit out for brand new, three times, under warranty. Last week they upgraded me to a BackUPS Pro BR1200G, free of charge. Apart from the battery life, the BX did not play nicely with apcupsd, exhibiting frequent COMMS LOST conditions and slow responses (5+ seconds) to status queries. The BR1200 has banished all the comms problems - I wait to see how the batteries hold up. I ought to point out that conditions here are fairly harsh on the UPS - we get an average of two powercuts a day.
February 4, 201511 yr Thx for this tip. I am rethinking the option to try to install my Powershield(Riello) directly in Unraid. I already installed the windows package in my w8.1 vm and it turns off my vm, but did not try to also shutdown the host since probably it will just shutdown it and not do a clean shutdown. I will start a new post since I guess a clean powerdown can beachieved from my main win8.1 vm. Pls, feel free to give me your support there. Rgds.
February 7, 201511 yr I note that apcupsd v3.14.13 has just been released - it adds a major new feature : MODBUS USB support. I wonder whether this would have sddressed the issues I had with my BX1100 which has been recently swapped out. Anyway, I suggest that it would be worth updating and testing the new release of apcupsd.
February 7, 201511 yr Author LT is going to include the apcupsd package in the core of b13 so it will not have to be downloaded and installed. I don't know which version of the apcupsd package will be included. The apcupsd plugin won't be included in b13 because of other issues. I will update the plugin as needed for b13. LT plans on incorporating the plugin in b14.
February 7, 201511 yr LT is going to include the apcupsd package in the core of b13 so it will not have to be downloaded and installed. Hmmm ... I wonder what they see as the benefits for that? I would think that it is better to NOT include non-core packages into the unRAID image - it would make upgrades (such as this one) much easier.

PeterB, What changes are in apcupsd v3.14.13 that makes it appear to you to be a required upgrade? (Not that I totally disagree with including packages such as this in the Core. But I do think that putting them in the core makes a lot sense when one considers that the person who is currently building the plug-in will 'retire' at some point in the future.)
February 7, 201511 yr I would think that it is better to NOT include non-core packages into the unRAID image - it would make upgrades (such as this one) much easier. Plugins can and do overwrite core functionality when needed. Right now this is typically a cause of problems, instead of a solution, but in the future if necessary it should be easy to write a plugin to upgrade a core feature like this.
February 17, 201511 yr Author The apcupsd plugin has been updated for 6b13. Unfortunately is is not backwards compatible. The apcupsd package is now included in the unRAID core and the apcupsd plugin does not download the package. You will need to remove the old apcupsd plugin, reboot, and re-install the new one; you cannot update the plugin. YOU MUST REMOVE THE OLD PLUGIN AND REBOOT! It is planned that the apcupsd plugin become a part of the unRAID core before final V6. When that happens, the apcupsd plugin will be deprecated.
February 17, 201511 yr You will need to remove the old apcupsd plugin, reboot, and re-install the new one; you cannot update the plugin. I think you really need to emphasize these instructions, as the plug in system does show you that an update exists, and does update it. However, if you DON'T delete the old plugin, then the dashboard does not work correctly for some reason.

February 17, 201511 yr Author This killed my server Restore the flash from your b12 backup, remove the apcupsd plugin from /boot/plugins and boot. This should return you to a working b12. Then update from there and add the apcupsd plugin.
February 17, 201511 yr Hmm i'm getting the feeling the install instructions for B13 should include, "remove apcupsd plugin", "reboot", and only then, "update to B13"
February 17, 201511 yr Hmm i'm getting the feeling the install instructions for B13 should include, "remove apcupsd plugin", "reboot", and only then, "update to B13" Probably the safest thing to do. To solve my dashboard problem I just removed, rebooted, then reinstalled after I had installed B13 Had to uninstall all the plugins and install one at a time however to figure out where the problem was however
February 17, 201511 yr One thing's for sure, with the snow hitting us and everything shutting down I sure as heck am not risking my array and Plex being down
February 17, 201511 yr Thanks for the heads up, Everything seemed to be working okay without uninstalling and reinstalling but I went ahead with your recommendations. One thing's for sure, with the snow hitting us and everything shutting down I sure as heck am not risking my array and Plex being down Word, freezing rain right now, had ~10 events today so far. I am very glad I decided to bite the bullet and get a UPS before winter came. ~120 dollars isn't much to protect my server, everything it holds hardware wise, data stored on it, and the time invested. It has highlighted a flaw though, my router/cable modem is not on a UPS so when brownouts or momentary power outages occur the network still goes down for a minute or two. Wonder if I should try to rewire things so it's in the same room as the server or get a small surge protector sized UPS, I doubt it takes much power and waveform type (think that's the correct term) shouldn't matter. Like this maybe.
February 17, 201511 yr I keep my router and cable modem on ups and those things barely use any of the power up on it.
February 17, 201511 yr ditto. In my case i'm lucky enough that all my network hardware is in the same closet at the server and so it is on the same ups. Ok back on topic...

Then update from there and add the apcupsd plugin. How do I get to the backup? Do I need to remove the flash drive from the machine and do it from another machine? /mnt is empty when looking with MC I rebooted the server, but am waiting for it to come back up now.
February 17, 201511 yr rebooting resolved my issue; not sure why/how, but all seems good again. i just installed apcupsd again, will reboot now and report back if there are any issues.

What settings do you need to change in the /etc/apcupsd/apcupsd.conf? I need to change NISIP - the current setting of localhost (127.0.0.1) prevents me from slaving other machines from the same UPS. In the past, this value was blank (either I had editted it, or that was the defau;t), which allows any machine to communicate with the NIS service. These settings are handled by the apcupsd plugin. Does the plugin allow me to alter NISIP? If so, how? This file is part of the apcupsd package that is in the core and installed on each boot of unRAID. Indeed, so I probably need to set up a simple SED script somewhere. However, I know that I'm not the only person who slaves additional machines off the unRAID UPS (from other postings here), so there will be others who have the same problem.
