Thanks for the quick fix dlandon.

You're welcome.  Snowed in and bored so I have the time.

Wow, that was prompt.  Many thanks, sir!

The immediate response on my desktop computer:

Broadcast message from root@desktop (somewhere) (Tue Feb 17 20:03:06 2015):

Communications restored with UPS Tower

Yipee!

Oh, what's 'snowed in'?  Temperature here, at 8pm, is a cool 28C.

Fixed in next release.

snowed in and "teleworking" ... sadly perfect time to muck with beta13 but even I'm a little gun shy at the moment :(

Reading the posts it seems the biggest issue is with some who have pooled (BTRFS) cache drives.  I'm backing up all my VMs and cache right now and I'm going to give it a go.  My cache is formatted XFS.  I've already tested on my test server with a XFS cache drive.  Worked fine.

+1... It always blows! (literally and figuratively)

I have successfully updated to b13 and all my VMs are working, even the VM with GPU pass through.

I have found an issue with the apcupsd plugin though.  If I start the VMs on boot, the apcupsd plugin loses communications with the UPS.  If I boot and start the VMs manually, there is no problem.  I do have a USB device for a printer passed through to one of my Windows 7 VMs.  Not sure if this is causing a problem or not.

I am running Xen 4.4.0 because it was the version with the best IGPU pass through support.  I didn't have this issue with b12 and the plugin loading the apcupsd package.

For the moment, I can deal with this issue.

LT will be including the apcupsd plugin in V6 and I expect if there is still a problem, they will be able to sort it out.

beta13 is crashing on me, so I'm going back to beta12.  How can I get the older version of this plugin, which works with beta12?

There is a link on the OP for the plugin for b12.

???

Beta12 + APCUPSd 2015.02.17 seems to be working. Am I not aware that it isn't really working???

I think it will work ... until you reboot.  You should then find that the apcupsd package is no longer loaded.

I would have thought that it should be possible to fix the plugin code such that the apcupsd package is downloaded and installed only if it is not already installed.  In that way, the same .plg should work on b12 and b13.

ahhh yes that makes sense.

To your second point: Tom actually said that is what was supposed to happen, but I guess it wasn't hence the quick change by dlandon. [shrug] in either case I'll just not reboot until 14 comes out ;-)

While in theory this should have just worked as it was, the apcupsd package downloaded was installed and caused a problem.  Package versions are checked when a new package is installed and the apcupsd package downloaded by the apcupsd plugin should not have installed.  I suspect that LT did not install the apcupsd package as a package so the install package could not detect it.

I did not spend any time on this issue because LT will include the plugin in the core, we are in beta testing, and the apcupsd plugin will be deprecated.  It's just a matter of where to spend my time.

LT should have just included the apcupsd plugin in the core.  It is only a webgui to configure the apcupsd package and has been tested extensively by the unRAID community.  I don't understand the concern about testing the apcupsd plugin before release.  Any tweaking could happen at a later date and including it now would minimize all these issues.

LT should have just included the apcupsd plugin in the core.

Agreed.  As you suggest elsewhere, it is almost certainly the most thoroughly exercised of all unRAID plugins.

Thanks, sorry for the wasted text; I just didn't scroll down far enough to see :(  I've got it now, and rolling back as I type.

I have modified the apcupsd plugin to be compatible with all v6 beta versions.  You can safely update apcupsd on b12 and b13.

I just looked for updates in the GUI, but it doesn't show one.

I'm back on beta12, using the version 2015.01.26

I'm still on beta 12 but it sounds like it is safe to upgrade this plugin correct? Also, if I upgrade now, is it safe to assume I will not have to remove apcupsd and re-install the plugin once b14 comes out?

Yes and Yes.  I installed the plugin on b12 and then upgraded to b13 on my test server.  All went well.

I saw many people struggling with the apcupsd plugin and spent a little time to apply a fix.  While the fix I applied is not what I would do for a long term solution, it will solve the problem in the short term until LT includes the plugin into the core.  I was not happy with my initial fix for b13.  I was thinking that people would just move on to b13 and b12 support for the plugin would not be an issue.  With some having problems related to BTRFS pooled cache drives and rolling back to b12, I thought it best to get a better fix.

I wish I could have gotten a preliminary copy of b13 to see if the plugin had any issues.  If LT would have let me try b13 before being released, I could have had a fix ready and there would have been less issues in upgrading and less support problems for LT.

Sorry for all the confusion and the issues with the plugin.  There have been many changes to V6 (all good) as we progress through the beta process and I try my best to keep up.

Jonp,

As you can see the apcupsd plugin is a critical part of an unRAID server.  If you make any further changes that could affect the apcupsd plugin, please PM me a link to the beta release before going live so I can make any necessary changes to the plugin and issue an update to take care of any issues before release.

I really appreciate all the time and effort you have put into this plugin, thank you very much!  Installed without any problems on 6b12.

The powerdown plugin has not been changed for b13.  I only added the release notes.

Based on this, I went ahead and updated my 6b12 system to the latest powerdown too.

Apcupsd plugin is now included in b14.  Remove the apcupsd plugin before updating unRAID.

The apcupsd plugin will be deprecated.

First, I wanted to say thank you dlandon for extensively supporting the apcupsd plugin. I dont think it ever would have been possible or wouldnt have happened nearly as early as it has to get it built in were it not for your continued efforts in supporting it across the various stable releases and the v6  betas.
