best way to hunt for duplicate files

Featured Replies

I've got a NAS drive (2x2tb) and I'm plagued with duplicates. I just grabbed "yet another duplicate file remover" from sourceforge and so far the jury's out. I was moving about 500gb worth of data via 802.11N and running this application at the same time. Needless to say it's having to scan each file and it's a slow process. It's been 24 hours now and the file transfer has been done for about 8. Seems like YADFR is about half way done.

Anyway, since everyone else here has the capability for way more storage, I'm curious how you keep duplicates in check.

If its computing an algorithm to find the checksum of each file where it matches name (or very similar) then I suspect it will take a little while.  This is what I would want, unless it prompted me for every duplicate FILENAME (only).

Just a thought.

yeah it's checking the hashes now. Strangely enough it's using 21mbps and only about 4% cpu.
