September 5, 201411 yr I expect not at this point but a USB drive would have some benefits for a cache drive. At this point you can get a 64gb flash drive for fairly cheap plus it'd allow an extra drive for storage.
September 5, 201411 yr I don't think this is even an option, and if it were the performance would likely not be great. Most of us have a cache drive to provide quick writes to UnRAID, and I don't know what you'd get to a USB drive. If it's physical space you are trying to save in your case, maybe look to buy a SSD that you can mount on one of the case walls via Velcro (or if you are handy, drill holes in for the screws). I have a SSD hanging off the side of my case via Velcro and it's worked great. If you could survive with only 64GB of cache (which will likely contain docker info moving forward which could be 10-20GB) then you can likely find a fairly cheap SSD of this size to meet your requirements.
September 5, 201411 yr You can do it, I've done it in the past, you can just mount the drive as cache manually, but it was horribly slow (USB 2.0 2.5" drive). Maybe if unRAID supported USB 3.0 (does it support USB 3.0 yet?) then it might be worth a try with a fast flash drive.
