Copy speeds have gone down 2/3rds - what could it be?

So.... How the heck do I do a SMART check? I thought I had it started in the unmenu screen, but I got no results after 24 hours.

Smart status in unmenu will request the results of the check from the drive. Smart isn't a program that runs on the machine, it's built in to the hard drive. So, you ask the drive to perform the check, and make sure unraid doesn't spin down the drive while it runs. Then after a period of time (typically a couple hours or more) you ask the drive to return the results by getting a smart status. The results of any tests will be in the smart status report.

I can't help you with that as I use drive health and the reports from it in dynamix. You could just disable it for a little while to test a bypass.

Let me ask you this. If I can copy from the computer to the server at gigabit speeds, wouldn't that automatically rule out a problem with the cache disk? Therefor there is no reason to even attempt to bypass it?

Thanks. I now see that there is a smart status button right there in unmenu, just as you say. Thanks!

Here is the results. You can see I ran a few tests not understanding why I wasn't getting any results. lol..

So........... Anyone have any ideas here?

I'm so baffled!!!

The ONLY other difference is I used to have a USB 3.0 HUB and the drive went through it, but now the drive just goes straight to the computer. Any chance that would have something to do with it?

Try a different ripping app.

Any suggestion for a free app?

Are you not using AnyDVD HD to rip to image, i.e. ISO image.

  • Author

I certainly am. Someone suggested I try another ripping software. While I don't see how on earth that could make a difference I'm desperate.........and completely baffled.

It won't, something has changed in your setup since you were getting fast speeds. Could be a windows update or something. Maybe you will have to rip to your PC first.

Has to be a network  setting, but then i think if it were the network it wouldn't go from pc to server at giga speeds.

That leads me to believe it is something between entering through usb and exiting through the network on the fly. This is where I get lost and have no idea how to troubleshoot.

I can't really help you there as I use a mac, leave it to rip then come back and rip another while sending it to the server. Always works for me.

Well I just did all the Windows updates, including from 8 to 8.1 and still the same deal.

That leaves the fact I went from a USB hub straight to the computer OR

The fact I changed some of the USB settings to get some Apple iPad/iPhones working (if there has ever been a love/hate relationship of a device it's gotta be the iPHone).

I am going to grab another hub, the exact same one I was using previously that broke.

If that doesn't work I'll try to dive into the USB settings in device manager.

It's all about the "WHY" now...... stuff doesn't happen for no reason. And I didn't spend good money to get the fastest transfers over the network to just let it go! UGGGGG!!!!!  :P

Quick throw away the iPhone, and it will be good again. The Apple Gods are trying to trick you into buying a macbook.

Given the complexity of today's technology, it's amazing anything works.

You should borrow a friends laptop and try that.

Good idea! I'll grab my daughters!
