Where should I start?

Featured Replies

So I've been following unRAID for a few years now and wanted to setup a server for some time but always held back because I wasn't sure how to include virtualization into  the mix. Now that unRAID 6 is out, that problem has been solved. I have the hardware in place and would like to setup the server but I'm not sure if I should start with 5 and upgrade to 6 once it's in a stable release or just go start with 6 now. Is 6 beta stable enough to run?

My $0.02 as someone who started with 5.05 a couple of months ago is to minimize your plugins if you start with 5.05.  I perceive it to be more work to upgrade the plugins than unRAID itself, as I do my homework in preparation for an upgrade to v6.  The only things you definitely want are pre_clear and screen, though there are so many other goodies that come with unMenu that I'd consider it.

If you are just starting out I would recommend going straight to v6.  It is getting close to Release Candidate status, and you might as well go straight to the new virtualisation features.

Thanks for the input. I was thinking it would be better to just start with 6 and upgrade to the the stable version once it's out just wanted to verify that before jumping in.
