September 12, 201411 yr Goal: Configure user/share settings to allow: [glow=green,2,300]READ-ONLY[/glow] access to: all three ROKU boxes (running PLEX plugin), Windows user daily, Windows user Carol and any new/unknown user on network. [glow=red,2,300]FULL[/glow] access to: Windows user "Johnny" (Windows users daily + Johnny are accounts on the same PC. Windows user Carol- is on a different PC. I use a non-administrator account "daily" for day-to-day activities.) My confusion- I have Plex Media Server, SABNZBD and SICKBEARD running via plugin on my 5.05 server (on the cache drive). They, of course, need access to the server to do their job. My question: How do I make allowances for them? I think I understand the USER/SHARE security functions, but I'll be honest and admit- the last time I poked at this, I managed to lock myself out of my own server- ONLY MYSELF, ironically, so any ELI5 pointers/advice would be welcomed. UNRAID (w/[glow=red,2,300]Plex Media Server + SABNZBD + SICKBEARD[/glow] plugins) | |_________________________________________________ | | | | | | [glow=green,2,300]ROKU ROKU ROKU [/glow] PC#1 PC#2 [glow=green,2,300]TABLET/NEW USER/visitor/etc.[/glow] | | User [glow=green,2,300]DAILY [/glow]User [glow=green,2,300]Carol[/glow] User [glow=red,2,300]Johnny[/glow]
October 15, 201411 yr If you have a plus or pro license (free doesn't support security), set the user share(s) to Secure. That will give everyone including anonymous users read-only access except the specific users you set to have full access. User share access only applies to network access, so your plugins that are running on unRAID don't care about the user share access settings.
