September 24, 201411 yr Hi- I upgraded the parity drive and one data drive in my current setup from 2->4 TB. I took the old 2 TB drives and built another unraid server. I Deleted all the old files and shares. I then started a parity check and it is very slow: 2 TB Current position: 3.13 GB (0%) Estimated speed: 6.06 MB/sec Estimated finish: 5494 minutes Sync errors corrected: 557833 Should I have pre-cleared these drives to avoid this? Thanks, -12vman
September 24, 201411 yr Pre-Clearing is not relevant to parity checking (except as a confidence check of the drives involved). The slow speed almost certainly indicates some sort of problem accessing at least one of the disks. A SMART report and a syslog may give more clues as to whether the problem is likely to be a real problem with a disk, or something else like a cabling or power issue.
September 24, 201411 yr Author The Parity drive in this machine would no longer be valid as it now only stores parity for a single 2TB drive. I did test a file copy of a 12gb MKV, it finished in 4m30s. I looked at the syslog - nothing out of the ordinary.
September 24, 201411 yr Ihad the same type of problem and no one came to my rescue. Here is what i did and it worked. Go to Unraid Main and make a list your drive locations Now stop the array. Go to Tools in Unraid Main and choose New Config. Follow the directions Go back o the main page and assign your discs to wherever you want them. It probably should take just a few hours to rebuild the parity drive With 11 drives (8 empty) and a 4tb parity mine took 6 hours
September 27, 201411 yr Author I pre-cleared both the drives and started over. Brought the server up online, built parity and did a check - all is good now.
