Updating unraid

Featured Replies

Currently running version 4.7.  Can I upgrade to a current version directly?  Or must I take intermediate steps?

I usually follow the steps listed in the readme that comes with a new unraid version.

When you come from 4.7 and update to V5 or V6 some additional steps might be needed.

Updating the basic NAS is fairly straightforward -- just follow the steps in the ReadMe (I'd upgrade to v5 rather than the beta v6).    But it's a different story for the plug-ins ... many won't work with the newer versions (especially with v6).    So the best approach depends on how your system is configured.

There is also a section in the WIKI which covers about all of the issues which you might encounter along the way.  You can find it here:

However, don't be too intimidated as most people have very few (if any) issues.  Just be sure that you run the 'new permissions' script.  (It seems to be one thing that many people forget do. It can take several hours to complete if you have lot of files, do be patient.  It is on the 'Utils' tab of the GUI.)
