October 2, 201411 yr Server Pro 5.0.5 My server was full and decided to splash out on a new case with more capacity and a new controller card to match. I had a 16 port Highpoint RAID card and my new card is a 24 port LSI 9650SE The 9650SE installed ok and when it boots, I can see my drives there. However, UNRAID reports "SATA link down." When I look closely at the LSI BIOS, it tells me that the disks are available but not mounted. If I try to mount them, it wants to format them. I had assumed that because UNRAID uses its own proprietary file system, that the make of RAID card was irrelevant as it was only being used as an interface from disc to system...... And that i could build the new server, plug in my existing disks and off we go.... Is this Olympic class muppetry? Am I going to have to buy enough fresh disc capacity on my new LSI card and then transfer the data from my old Highpoint based server? Thanks for looking! Paul syslog.txt
October 2, 201411 yr In the card's bios (Alt-3 on boot), is it set to JBOD? I'm testing this card for a new build and unraid couldn't see the drives until I made that change.
October 3, 201411 yr Author Spot on! So obvious and yet easily missed. Thanks As a postscript for anyone else in the same boat, the new card reports the discs in a completely different way. e.g. UNRAID was looking for my parity disc as; WD-WCC4E3URAJ33 what it now saw was....................1AMCC_E3URAJ33000000000000 and consequently called it the "wrong disc" If you look closely, the only common component is the "E3URAJ33" bit. This was repeated with the other 9 discs. The good news was that going to the "Utils" tab, selecting "New Config" and confirming the that the parity was already valid and the volume came online with no drama at all
