Good time to make the switch to 6?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Hopefully I can get a little direction from the community here...

I have a stable unRAID 5.0.5 setup running under ESXi.  I don't foresee myself utilizing any of the virtualization components of 6, simply because I already have a reliable virtualized setup under VMware (except maybe Docker, because that does seem super interesting to me, but I have no idea how well containers would run under virtualization).  However, given that 5 development has pretty much ceased, I would like to ultimately migrate to 6, even if its just to have more recent packages/security updates.

I remember I made the switch from version 4 to 5 around beta 10 (if memory serves), so I would think now might be a good time to try.  Truth be told I haven't been following the releases all that closely, so perhaps someone can chime in if this would be a good idea (or a terrible one).  I run a fairly lean unRAID setup right now, with my only main plugins being SAB and Dynamix, in addition to some unMenu items like apcupsd, email notifications, screen, etc.

So... anyone willing to provide some feedback, comments, suggestions, advice?

Thanks in advance!

You prob want to wait until they provide a version without any virtualization bloat. I don't know if the Xen/KVM versions would cause issues in your situation.
