REQUEST: SickBeard Torrent Edition

Featured Replies

I know that there is SickBeard, SickBeard TBP and SickRage...but have you guys seen this new fork:  http://sickbeard.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=8691

I have been using it for the last month or so and it works REALLY well.  I am going to research how to build a container but if anyone wants to beat me to it, please feel free!  :)

Check out the list of torrent providers (many are private):

Out of interest, is there a particular reason you are using torrents over usenet?

Personally the security of downloading via usenet instead of torrents is worth the couple of bucks to me

I'm looking to try out NZBdrone over sickbeard soon. It looks top class

It's not a matter of cost.  I'm just tired of broken downloads with NGs.  I am a long time NG user and gave it up about 2 years ago.

I also use a VPN service so security is not much of an issue (as long as you know what you are downloading).

Heck...I have ~500GB of unused Blocknews quota that I haven't touched in 2 years.  Maybe I'll at least set up on of the NZB clients and use it to fill holes.

Get a fill server (and use it!)

There's virtually nothing I can't get (that I personally want), going back to late 2008.

Torrents, especially for older material, are a waste of time for me - slow, never complete.

I use SuperNews (per my sig), with an Astraweb block. I've used about 500GB of the AW block in 2 years, and I pull down about 2 to 4TB a month via SuperNews.

Funny you say that neilt0. For anything over two years old I find torrents to work best. Nothing more annoying that a downloaded file that cant unpack or has par file issues. At least if a torrent is slow I can stop it and find another, but its not until I have fully downloaded a file from NG's that I know if it ok or corrupted somehow.

I'm currently with NewsDemon and have a block with someone else (cant remember off the top of my head)

I do love the speed though. Its hard to beat

Me too i'm using Usenet exclusively.  I find it work best with a Astraweb + Tweaknews.eu for Filling.  With that combination, i NEVER found something incomplete because of DMCA takedown.  In fact, Tweaknews doesn't do DMCA, they are under a different legislation.

For Torrents, I use a Seedbox and download in HTTPS when it's completed.

Can someone clarify is this fork purely for torrents or do all the usenet providers also work?

That's the same combination I use for my usenet downloads.  If I ever do have failures on downloads, I can usually restart it and it'll finish correctly every time.  I was using a seedbox for all my downloads via deluge(torrents), but 90% of what I want I get from usenet now, and it's fully automated, win-win in my book, lol.

For what limited torrents I do download, I use TorGuard torrent proxy, and a private tracker, seems to work without any problems, and I can still get my full speed of my 'net connection.

hi nas, this ADDS torrent support to the existing sickbeard app, so you still have all the same newznab based index sites plus a load of pre-defined torrent sites too.

for anybody still interested in this i have created a docker of this, you can grab it via dockerman webui (built into unraid 6 beta 9 or above) or simply do a docker run.

dockerman template repo is https://github.com/binhex/docker-templates

docker information for manual pull is https://registry.hub.docker.com/u/binhex/arch-sickbeard-torrent/

please note this is using arch linux as the base os, NOT phusion.

edit - hmm looks like this is a different fork to the OP, i will see if i can update this to use the new fork instead.

edit2  - fixed up, now pointing at the correct fork.
