October 10, 201411 yr My current setup is using unraid v5.0.5 in a VM under esxi 5.0. I'm passing through a AOC-SASLP-MV8 card and the onboard SATA ports. I have an unused x4 pci-e slot and found a card that may work. I can't seem to find if anybody has tried it in unraid or with esxi pci-e passthrough. Do any of you have any experience with the LSI00132 cards? Here is a link for them http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816118087
October 10, 201411 yr As a general rule the card needs to be able to function as a HBA card. Witch means with LSI cards they need to be flashed to IT mode. I have no experience with this card but flashing to IT mode takes away the megaraid functionality of the megaraid card. I would recommend a LSI 9211-4i flashed to it mode or other LSI SAS2004 based card flashed to IT mode. Flashing to IT mode takes away all raid functionality so I would stay away from megaraid cards because they are more expensive and unRAID doesn't use those features.
October 10, 201411 yr Author Thanks for the input. I'll look into the LSI SAS2004 cards since it looks like those are much more commonly used in unraid.
