Re: Restoring Unraid server from an outdated backup - SOLVED

Featured Replies

I did something very bad I messed up my configuration of my Unraid.  With out thinking I restored to a backup copy of my Flash.  However I didn't realize that the back up was quite old and was missing a drive.  Unraid thinks I have the wrong drives selected and wont let me start now.  The drive I had added became my parity and my old parity became a data disk.  I have pictures of the harddrives assignements.  How can I get Unraid to accept the drives and let me start the without giving me invalid expansion or wrong disk errors?

Just do a New Config and assign the drives correctly.

I have never had to do that before.  How would I do that?  Do you mean download a clean unraid copy and start orver?

From the GUI select Tools and then New Config. It will wipe all drive assignments.

Manually re-add the drives back (make sure you know which is parity) and you can mark that Parity is good so it's doesn't rebuild.

the array should then restart fine.

So go to the Util tab and New config?  So all I should have to do is reassign the drives to the right spot then correct?

Yup. Just make sure you hit the checkbox for Parity is Valid before you start the array so it doesn't try and rebuild it.

Assuming you are using 5.0 or later Parity has to be in the same spot, but the other disks can be in whatever order you like. In 4.7 every disk needs to be in the correct slot.

Don't check the "trust parity" box unless you're CERTAIN that you haven't done any writes to your array since the last time it was working okay.    It doesn't hurt anything to just let it do another parity sync.

... although checking "trust parity" and then doing a correcting parity check will accomplish the same thing (it can just be scary to see how many thousands of "corrections" there can be if you were wrong about the parity already being correct).

Thank you both so much.  This saved me alot of grief.  Rebuilding parity now and all seems at peace again.  Again I can't say thank you enough.
