October 17, 201411 yr Hi all, today I changed the case of my Unraid and, I do not how, I lost the screenshot of the Device Status page so I am not able to reconstruct the order the various hard drives should be assigned. The only one I know for sure is the Parity Disk (the only 4Tb disk). Any suggestion??? Is it possible to assign the disks without respecting the original order? If not, is there any method I can use to re assign the disks? Hope you can help me out with this issue. Thanks
October 17, 201411 yr If you use unRAID v5 it is not necessary to know the exact order. Just make sure you assign the correct drive as parity! If I remember correctly, the expected drive for each slot is shown when you try to assign the drives.
October 17, 201411 yr Author Ok cool... Thanks for the help. BTW I tried and the drives were not assigned automatically so I gave them a size order (from the bigger to the smaller). Hope ti works!!!!!
October 17, 201411 yr If you had used the same unRaid flash drive that already contained your array configuration, unRaid would have mapped the drives to the slots using the serial numbers. If you do a new config, then this manual assignment is required. The is no need to do a new config if you are migrating your array to a new server and keeping all the same drives in the array.
October 17, 201411 yr No, drives won't be assigned automatically. (if you do a "new config") Given your config is still valid and you did not do a "new config", you assign a drive to a slot and it will show you OK or wrong drive and afaik, the drive serial that was previously assigned to the slot. Edit: bjp999 is right, if your config is still valid, drive assignment should occur automatically. Did you do a "new config"?
October 17, 201411 yr Author Thanks a lot... unfortunately I decided to start all from scratch and I formatted the usb... That is why there is no info when I reassign the drives...
October 17, 201411 yr Given that you KNOW which drive is the parity drive, then you can assign all of the others in any order you want. If you had a cache drive, you need to determine which drive that was -- but that's likely apparent by the size. If you're not sure, then assign ALL of the drives except the parity drive as data drives, and do NOT assign the parity drive. Then Start the array, and browse the content of the drives until you know which one is the cache. Then do another New Config, and this time assign the cache and parity drives appropriately; then assign all of the others as data drives. You're then all set
October 17, 201411 yr Author Really appreciate, luckily I know which is the array disk (is the only the 4Tb) and the cache...
