October 22, 201411 yr Im using 5.0.5 pro and the past few days I been experiencing my shares completely disapear when checking from web browser on second pc. I can restart and it will be back. My question is why is this happening. I just added two 4 terabyte drives this week took over 94 hours for one to preclear 3 passes and the other was on a sata2 controller so was over 100 hours. Is there a faster way to preclear so system isn't down for 3 plus days again. I just about moved all my tv over but need more space to move music and movies onto the unraid and still keep it on the other server just as backup.
October 22, 201411 yr You can use the pre-clear script to do a pre-clear on a disk before adding it to the array so that the array downtime on adding is just minutes.
October 22, 201411 yr Author Ah good to know for my next batch of drives, probly grab 2 more this payday. I want my cartoons back online, NOT just for the kiddies
October 22, 201411 yr Author Havent upgraded yet. Do I just get the new file then extract it on pc then copy files over old files ? I have pro and dont want to mess up the stick
October 22, 201411 yr The download includes a README file. Read the file completely and follow the instructions carefully. Make sure that you identify the correct set of instructions for your version.
October 22, 201411 yr Author Ok thanks just downloaded the zip extracting and i'll read up before I attempt to start. testing pic? http://1drv.ms/1DBpYfY
October 24, 201411 yr Author Well I did as instructions say I can just copy the files bzimage, bzroot, readme, and memtest files to my flash drive. I then rebooted as directions say. Server is up and running but still says its version 5.0.5 in the browsers control pannel I guess its called
October 27, 201411 yr Author Yes I overwrote, i'll shutdown and move the stick next time to make sure it overwrites correctly.
October 28, 201411 yr Author Ah tonight I finally had free time to do a few checks and I tried once again to copy to the stick and I noticed the pc I used to do this is running windows 10 developer prevue and it did indeed not overwrite the files. I see the file date on the 4 files I tried to move are still old dated files. I then tried from my old server runing windows 7 64 bit and it did indeed work that time. So I found my first sortof bug on windows 10. Otherwise so far win10 is the fastest microcrap OS Ive used to date. Im using it on my oldest 775 socked motherboard, from my favorite motherboard manufacturer that is no more unfortunately. ABIT. Its got amd chipset but its been rock solid for me. Working it as hard as I can and even seeing 95+% cpu load the pc is still zippy. has a q6600 overclocked at 3ghz thats all and 6gb ddr2. Sorry for my rant. Im just happy i found out why it didn't update last time. Im running a parity check since I moved alot onto the server in the past day or 2. So i'll reboot when I wake tomorrow.
October 29, 201411 yr Author Well is all up to date now with 5.0.6 installed and working with all my drives, 7 data 1 cache and 1 parity, but have room for 5 more in my inwin q500b full server tower from 20 years ago. I still may either cut whole in side of cabinet to feed more cables to a second smaller case, but if I do im mounting it to the back side of my tower so i dont need to use external cabling. I may hang a 3 or 4 cage I took out of an older cheap tower I trashed. I can rivit it top just far enough in front of the top rear fan so will have some cooling and all the other top drives are in back plain cages with built in fans I have curently reversed the fans to exhaust and I did see both lower temps on the drives and lower temps inside the tower. I do have to run the fans on there higher setting once the cage fills with drives but if only 2 of the 3 occupied in lower cage not need high setting, the quad cage I have 2 of one in my unraid and 1 in my older windows 7 server both of them only need high setting once all 4 are populated. wish I could figure out how to put pics up on this forum. Id show my setup. I know it needs a better cable management but till I replace all the lower smaller drives I dont plan to do so. temps re ok most of the time.
October 31, 201411 yr Author Finally figured out pics on this page Heres an older pic of my server when it was in my bedroom hooked up as a media server
