Which Media Center are you using?

Featured Replies

I was a bit surprised at the number of "Other" votes for this poll.  So please chime in with your "Media Center" of choice here.

WinXP SP3 (OS)

MediaPortal (Front End)

Media Player Classic Home Cinema (Player)

I and a few others use SageTV.  I would not be surprised to see BeyondMedia users, and possibly a few MythTV and Media Portal users, one above.  I suspect there were a few business users, that did not know where else to register a vote for 'None'.  There are some J River users.  And some don't really have a specific 'media center' package, just use a variety of tools, such as Winamp for music, VLC and Media Player Classic for videos, etc.

Plex here as well running a mac mini.

Nothing but XBMC

MediaPortal.

I am considering XBMC (because it's the Original) and also a "return" to Meedio (Ultimate) or MeediOS.

You know what NLS would say eh? :D

"you should ask us before entering the poll choices" :P

XBMC on original XBOX

XBMC Atlantis on XBOX360

MythBuntu on HTPC

I will soon be setting up XBMC on an original XBox and using that to play the content from my unRAID Server.

I have 3 different devices (DVD player, PS2, and XBox) hooked up to my TV that can play DVD's from disc but none of them can play the collection that is on my server that are stored in ISO format.  Once I heard and started reading about XBMC on XBox I started looking into it and I will probably be setting that up in the next couple of weeks.

XBMC on the Xbox x 3

xbmc on xbox and on windows computer

Prior: XBMC on Xbox

Now: XBMC on Ubuntu

Meedio (MeediOS?) running on Windows Vista Ultimate HTPC (Living room)

Popcorn Hour (Bedroom)

SageTV v7 running on WHS PP3 on Dual Xeon 2.8ghz cpu's.

2 HD200 extenders. 1 in bedroom & the other in the living room.

XBMC on original XBOX

SageTV on Win XP Pro.  Will be adding a SageTV HD Theater box for an additional TV soon.

I have SageTV set to record all shows to a local hard disk in the HTPC box, then I remove commercials and transcode them to H.264 MKV files which are stored on the unRAID box (at which point I remove the original recording MPG file from the HTPC box).  The SageTV software then plays the shows from the unRAID box's drives, only slight issue is it can take up to about 10 seconds to start playing a show if the drives on the unRAID have spun down. This also works well with DVDs that have been ripped onto the unRAID drives.

XBMC on the Xbox

Hoping the ION works out and so I can have HD XBMC.

Pinnacle ShowCenter and Popcorn Hour

Zensonic Z500 - DVD & Media Player.

Popcorn Hour

Rhapsody M-35 (Although this one will be sold soon).

MG-35 (Another to be sold)

HTPC with daemontools/Zoom-player to mount and play ISO images (in the theater)

Two MG-35 Media-players. (for bedroom and den TVs)

I'm still using my old-school Meedio setup.

I'd be willing to switch, but I don't have time to test multiple others.  With large movie and music collections, I like Meedio's flexibility in setting up multiple different types of brows hierarchies.  Definitely let me know if other solutions have that kind of flexibility.  I loved the look and feel of Boxee, but the movie playback (under XP) wasn't as smooth as my Meedio setup using slower, older parts.  I guess I'm eagerly awaiting MeediOS.

Vista Media Centre on my everyday HTPC.

Plex in my testing environment.
