flimflamman
Someone shipped me their unraid system with all eight drives removed without any numbering of the drives... yea. I don't want to mess anything up. Is there a way to make sure I replace the drives in the correct bays in order to preserve all the data? Link to comment
tdallen
What version of unRAID is the system running? Older versions are sensitive to drive ordering, newer ones are not... Link to comment
flimflamman
ill have to look at the exact version but it's 5.x Link to comment
itimpi
ill have to look at the exact version but it's 5.x With the v5/v6 series drive order is irrelevant as disks are recognised by their serial number rather than their position. The only important thing to know which disk is the parity disk (if there is one). If there is a parity disk and you do not know which drive is the parity disk, then one way to find out is to do a 'new config' and assign all drives to the array. When you start the array the parity disk would show as unformatted. Make a note of that disks serial number; stop the array; and repeat the 'new config' step this time assigning the correct disk as parity. Link to comment
trurl
Since you're on v5, just put them in and start it up. If for some reason that doesn't work then you can do new config like itimpi said. Link to comment
