Strange Network behavior-not problem exactly--More Details

I am running transfers from a Xen VM to the unRaid (which is dom0) and I am getting some weird results, wondering if someone can explain to me what is happening.

When I copy a file from the VM to the array, using Midnight Commander, I get speeds like 180MB/sec for a while, and it will gradually slow down. If the file is around 1GB, it doesn't slow all that much. With 3-5GB files the last 25% of the file will take longer, getting down to 35-40MB/sec (which is what I kind of expect my array to actually write at).

EDIT: I thought more about this and realized that it might be helpful to know that on the smaller (1-2GB) files, the transfer is actually complete in like 5 seconds. It isn't just reporting amazing ridiculous speeds, the task is completing in ridiculous short periods of time.

AND, another detail, if I was copying a larger file, Plex would notice the change in the folder and start updating the library. This would cause hangs in both plex and MC. I ended up changing the settings in Plex so that it wouldn't update on changes, but every hour so this problem would go away. I think however that the two things are probably related.

My unRaid box is running 24GB RAM, with a cache drive storing the VM, and I am writing directly to the array (i.e. not to a cached share).

I can provide more detail if it will help.

TIA.
