November 9, 201411 yr I saw today I had a parity sync error, so I ran a parity check with correct errors enabled. Upon completion it says"Parity updated 1921 times to address sync errors." I recently experienced a power outage while transferring a large amount of data (~100GB) to my unRAID server. I suspect this may be the cause of so many errors. After the outage, I re-copied the data to the unRAID server again. Everything seems to be working fine. I'm just concerned as I'm about to upgrade from 5.05 to 5.06 and swap out the 2TB parity drive to a 4TB drive. Can anyone offer any advice if I have any issue? Thank you!
November 9, 201411 yr The upgrade from 5.05 to 5.06 is relatively trivial (just a few files replaced on the USB stick) and is unlikely to cause any issues. All I would say is that if you do this step first, make sure you reboot into 5.06 (to check it is running OK) before trying to upgrade the parity drive on the general principle of never making two changes at once if it can be avoided. If you want to be extra confident, you might want to do another parity sync before changing anything. This time there should be no errors to be corrected. That way in the worst case you if any problems are encountered putting the 4TB parity drive in you always have the option of reverting to the 2TB on (keep it safe until the change to the 4GB drive is completed and checked).
November 9, 201411 yr And get an UPS! Amen!! NO computer should be without a UPS ... ESPECIALLY a server !!
November 9, 201411 yr Author Ran another parity check overnight, game back with 0 sync errors corrected. Looks like everything is OK. I'll go ahead an update to 5.06 before adding the 4TB drive. Thanks for the guidance!
