April 1, 200917 yr Hello all, I'm in the process of setting my first build. I've got the server up and running with two disks added to the array. I am seeing the disks when I navigate over to TOWER on the network; however, when I tried to copy a file Windows 7 crashed on me (Win7 has been extremely stable for me, this is the first time I've seen a BSOD on it since installed it months ago). Even stranger now when I try to delete the file I'm getting a "this file is currently in use" message. Any thoughts? Thanks!
April 1, 200917 yr I can't speak as to why Windows7 crashed on you. You're a pretty brave man running a beta version of Windows. I have enough trouble running a release version on SP1! But I do have an app that I use that routinely crashes under Vista and leaves a file open on the unRAID server. When it happens, the file can't be deleted. If I reboot the unRAID server it will clear this up, as will waiting a while (not sure exactly how long, but I usually come back an hour or two later and can delete it). I once asked a question about how to "free" the file in Linux but never got an answer. Not sure if it is possible. Hope that helps.
April 2, 200917 yr Author Yeah I know call me crazy. Windows 7 has just been much snappier than XP was; I'm open to going back to vista, however I need to make sure that my UnRaid box can talk to my HTPC (It's running Win7 too, as win7 has better support for the Hauppauge TV card I'm using). Out of curiosity is anyone out there running Win 7 succesfully with UnRaid, or for that matter Vista? I'm really anxious to get this rig up and running!
April 2, 200917 yr It really boils down this: In theory it should work perfectly. In practice you are beta testing and as such you will be one of the first to find bugs and need to report/resolve them yourself. Vista still had SMB issues WELL after official release. XP and 2000 are so old they work flawlessly.
April 2, 200917 yr Author Thanks for the advice guys. Installed Vista this morning, things are working great. Guess I'll just have to wait, hopefully this will be fixed by the time the Windows 7 RC comes out. Cheers
April 4, 200917 yr When i can't delete files that i know for sure it isn't use by any applications, i usally telnet to the unraid and delete it manualy (use mc for navigate inside the unraid, it is more easy).
