November 12, 201411 yr I want to move to unRAID using a HP micro-server. However I want to get started before I buy the server. I have an older laptop that so far I have been able to run unRAID and do a preclear of a 1TB disk in an external case. Now I tried hooking up a 4 bay media-sonic case with 3 drives in it via USB, and the system will only see one of the drives in the case. Any idea what is going on? The case was just unplugged from a windows 7 machine that could see all the drives.

I've recently tried to preclear two external (in individual USB enclosures) HDDs simultaneously, and when connected both to my "Tower" server (version Pro 5.0), unRAID would see only one of them (or the other, but not both). When connected to "Front" server (version Pro 6.0-beta2), unRAID see both.
November 13, 201411 yr Author It looks like I'm running version 5. Also does anyone know why I would be getting read speeds of 500 K/sec on step 2?

So you cannot access multiple drives in a USB case as separate JBOD devices. I once compiled a kernel with this enabled and the kernel saw all LUNS. As can be seen, I've asked for the added support here. A while back, I made a cheap laptop preclear recovery station once using a used Dell D630 machine. Check it out here. In that build I used a PCI card with a silicone image chipset for eSATA PMP capability. unRecover - a quick cheap laptop build for recovery, copying and initialization http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=25136.msg218357#msg218357
