[SOLVED]Concern about new Setup

Featured Replies

Hello,

I was wondering if I could receive some insight if my setup is working properly or not as I might have screwed up something, I apologize in advance for my noobiness and sub par documentation.

In essence I was trying to mount a new UnRaid setup for my first time and using one 4TB(fresh never used) drive as parity and 2 3TB drives (with data but I already backed it up), since my intention was to test different raid software I did not bother pre clearing the parity drive but I do know that the 3TB ones are reliable since they were used in my old synology and passed the tests.

If I recall correctly upon accessing the web gui for the first time I assigned my drives and started the array and then clicked the format button but then for some reason I could not access the web gui afterwards and after 5 minutes not knowing what to do I foolishly typed exit on the server itself and it started initiating some sort of power down sequence . After powering it back up it seemed like somehow the format process was already done and it kept on doing the parity sync. Should I be worried something went wrong during inability to access the Web Gui and powering it off?

Also after the parity sync was completed I started a parity check immediately and left it run its course but when I came back at around 70-80% I saw the 2 data disks blinking white and green which according to my searching means the drives were spun down but should that be normal on a parity check? I would assume that all 3 drives should be active?.

Here is attached a picture of my setup and my syslog, as of now it has not finished parity checking but I could upload an updated syslog if needed

Thank You

Looks fine to me.  How did you know it was 70-80% through?

I would fix your IP too, will be easier to manage a server because you always know what address it will have.

Your parity is 4T and your data disks are 3T. During a parity check the 4T would keep reading its last 1T after the 3T data disks were finished. I am not sure what your spin down timer is set to, but it would be possible for the 2 data drives to spin down while the parity check finished.

Thanks for the reassurance Lacehim. It was more of a guesstimate, basically I ran the parity check in the morning and came back to check during the afternoon-evening and that's when I noticed the drives spun down. Your definitely right on that, I will assign a static IP when  I get the chance.
