November 18, 201411 yr Not sure if they are in the uk but the icy dock black vortex is < $30 from newegg. I just picked up the backplane version.
December 2, 201411 yr I've just received one of these from X-Case: http://www.xcase.co.uk/component-parts/storage-caddy/an-d35-trayless-hot-swap-cage-49-99-x-case.html No caddy in this one and it does have the backplane. Variable fan speed switch too. I was looking to replace my existing 5in3 hotswap for something without a caddy. I was sick of all the screwing/unscrewing every time I changed a disk. These look very nice. Aluminium outer case and the front doors to each bay are also Black Aluminium. Little bit pricey at £59.99 I suppose but also check out their other cages, there might be something you like there.
