November 18, 201411 yr We are replacing our aging Unraid server with a whole new system. This is what we have so far, would someone mind looking over it to make sure it will work ok with Unraid: Intel Core i3-4130 Haswell Dual-Core 3.4GHz LGA 1150 54W Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4400 BX80646I34130 ASRock Z97 Extreme6 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard SYBA SI-PEX40064 PCI-Express 2.0 Low Profile Ready SATA III (6.0Gb/s) Controller Card CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell ReadyCrucial 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CT102464BA160B Crucial 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CT102464BA160B Thanks, Scott
November 19, 201411 yr The first thing that stuck out for me was your Power Supply. How many hard drives are running? That supply could probably handle 24 drives.
November 19, 201411 yr No more than 10-12. 40 Amps on the 12 volt rail is all you need. (That amperage figure is very conservative. With many modern drives, 27-30 Amps would be sufficient.) Remember Power Supplies become less efficient as the power delivered become a small percentage of the maximum power rating. Most unRAID users will allow the drives to spin down when not being actively used and the power consumption is often in the 50 watt range. One other thing, I would double check on the Crucial website to verify that the memory you have select is recommended for that board.
November 19, 201411 yr Author We are going to look more in the 400-500 range. Thanks for helping! Scott
November 19, 201411 yr also, for the RAM. either get 2 of those 8GB chips or two 4GB chips to take advantage of dual channel memory.
