November 19, 201411 yr Hello All, I'm new here. Just recently (over the weekend) I installed UnRaid. Everything is pretty much setup. I am in the process of transferring files into the drives. Can I stopped the Array (parity) so I can transfer the files? Tried looking for the answering. But haven't come up ti it yet. Thanks john
November 19, 201411 yr When you stop the array all disks are offline (except the flash disk), also doing that would make parity invalid.
November 19, 201411 yr Author oh ok. so not a good idea. nevermind. maybe i should have transfer the files first before making the parity. thanks john
November 19, 201411 yr You can disable the parity drive, it will be invalid since it won't be current, so it will do a parity sync when you start the array with the parity disk assigned. Won't hurt anything though, it's the same thing it would have done if you had just transferred the files then enabled parity. You shouldn't try to stop the array while actually transferring files though.
November 19, 201411 yr Yep, that works. I think these are the steps, though i am not in front of the webUI. Hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong. [*]Stop the array [*]Unassign the Parity drive [*]Start the array. You are now unprotected. [*]Copy your data. Speed should be 2-3x faster. [*]After copy completes, stop the array. [*]Reassign Parity. [*]Restart the array. [*]Allow Parity Sync to complete. [*]You may want to run an additional Parity Check afterwards, just to be safe.
