November 19, 201411 yr pardon my ignorance but i'm trying to get my head around docker and where to start with it. last time i played with it was beta6, but as that broke the xen nic drivers i reverted to 5a. now i've upgraded to beta 10a and am moving my vms to kvm, i want to replace my ubuntu vm that runs sickbeard/sab/couchpotato/mysql(for xbmc library) to docker containers. first off what is the purpose of the .img and how big should i make it? i managed to create one of 5GB on my btrfs ssd that mounted outside the array (seemed to be painfully slow), is that big enough? and if not how do i go about removing it or resizing it? secondly, how do i get started with containers, i gather i add in repositories and pull the containers from gitsources? and lastly once i install a container how can i access it to migrate my current configs from the ubuntu vm to the containers? sorry if it seems like im punching above my weight, but its a new concept i'd like to learn and take advantage of, where better to learn that starting with the basics thanks in advance
November 19, 201411 yr We probably need a docker for dummies post at the top (I could have used one when I set it up) along with a 'list of template indexes' post to be updated regularly. Docker is now set up with a BTRFS filesystem through the loopback interface, and has a templating system to make it easy to do 3 button installs of containers. If you're expecting the complexity, you can still find it, but it's hiding underneath the pretty damn fancy GUI.
November 20, 201411 yr Dockers's webpage is not terribly helpful. Click around and you will find intro to the tech and online tutorials and even an interactive demo. You are woefully mistaken in stating this is not useful.
