T1000
I was looking into why my server wasn't sleeping anymore. I noticed that disk 7 (sdg) was constantly reading. After the server being up for 26 hours it was on 9 million reads (see pic). That disk contains general things like text files and misc videos. The only thing I did yesterday was put 2 or 3 small files on and then copied back again. I was watching TV shows off drives 1-4 for a few hours and they're much lower. In the past I've struggled to shutdown the server and have had to force unmount disk 7. Can anyone tell me how I work out whats going on? Quote Link to comment

itimpi
Your best bet is to do what is suggested in the syslog and use the 'lsof' command from a console/telnet session to see what files are open on the drive in question. Quote Link to comment
T1000
Thanks for that. It turned out to be XBMC BackUp that was backing up at 3.00am but with my library being so big it was taking forever with about 125,000 files. The was loads of back ups too (should have been 2) I ended up moving it to a local drive and deleting all the XBMC backups on the server, 9 million files deleted and 125GB back, result!
