Still using version 4.7, are larger 4 TB and 6 TB drives supported?

Featured Replies

I am still using version 4.7 pro. I have 2 TB drives and would like to upgrade to 4 TB or 6 TB drives. I've been away from the forum for quite awhile and tried to search for the answers, but couldn't find them. I understand that version 4.7 is limited to the 2 TB drive size. What version would I need to upgrade to so I could migrate to larger drives? There was talk about having two parity drives for more redundancy. Did the two parity design occur yet? Is it possible to upgrade without backing up all the data elsewhere? I don't have any other storage that is large enough to temporarily hold about 18 TB of data.

You can move to 5.0.6 which is the current shipping version. Any 5.0 version will support >2TB drives. As for the dual parity - no, this is not implemented first.

for upgrade... you should be able to backup your USB drive, and then drop the 5.0.6 files onto your USB drive and boot up with your array intact. Just be aware that if you are using Simple Features it's not supported in 5.X, and will need to be removed. If you want a GUI enhancement you can look at Dynamix.

If you check the wiki I believe there are steps for upgrading from 4.7 to 5.0 (or it's in the readme.txt file you get when you download 5.0.6).

What bk said, 5.0.6 is the latest stable and is a good upgrade from 4.7. Version 6 is nearly at b11 ("nearly") but I wouldn't hold your breath for a stable release until some time next year.

@davephan,

You also need to make sure your current drive controllers support larger than 2TB drives.
