Long SMART test gets cut off before completing

Featured Replies

I assume it's because the disk spins down, but I'm not sure.  I'm using the test option in the new Dynamix GUI.

Parity attached to port: sdl
Num   Test Description   Status                  Remaining   LifeTime(hours)   LBA of first error
1   Extended offline   Interrupted (host reset)   70%    1348           None
2   Short offline         Completed without error       00%    1344           None

Whatever the cause, can unRAID be made smart enough to let a SMART test finish, regardless of spin down settings (or whatever else might have caused it to not complete?

Thanks

Please explain what occurred to make this happen.

Did you close the browser or switch to another tab?

Did spin down occur and abort the test?

FWIW, you can look at the capabilities screen.

Notice where it says

Extended self-test routine

recommended polling time:        ( 785) minutes.

Then set your spin down on that drive to a value greater then this time.

I really think this is a defect in a new feature. I.E. resetting the spin down timer temporarily.

Please elaborate on your circumstances that caused this.

I just basically wanted to test all my drives, now that this is built in, and after having so many issues the last few months.  So, I ran short SMART tests on all my drives, which finish pretty quickly.  The long test take a couple/few hours I think, I figured I'd just run one every night.

I started with my parity.  I just picked the drive, then started a long test, then went to bed.  I didn't close the browser, or turn off the laptop as far as I remember, but even if i had, I would expect the test to continue, since it's running on the server directly.

I didn't change the spin-down settings on the drive before running.

I would prefer if the test would override any settings that might otherwise make the test stop, like spinning down the drive while it's being tested.

Again, I'm not positive that's what caused this, it's just my suspicion.
