FTP on unRAID 5??

Featured Replies

I have a need to connect back to my unRAID server via FTP.  I see FTP listed under Network Services in my menu, but I'm not quite sure how to use it.  An additional problem is I have just enough IT knowledge to get myself in trouble and actually setup a stable unRAID server so if there is a Linux code involved I'm likely in trouble.  Ultimately, is there a way to enable the FTP service on unRAID 5.0.5?  Thanks for any help.

FTP Server is one thing. Allowing access to it from the internet is another thing. If that is what you had in mind then you might be better off trying something like Teamviewer on another PC on your network and accessing your unRAID server that way.

Thanks.  I think I'm good now and probably posted too quickly.  After a few trial and error steps I found the embedded unRaid FTP Service works fine.  You simply need to add a user to it and open up the port on your home network.  Once I did that I could hit the unRaid server via FTP.

It is awfully simple because I don't see a way to restrict any users from certain folders or anything like that.  You pretty much get it all, but simple is probably good for me.  If there was one more line of text I would have likely gotten more confused. :)

Do you mean you have opened your unRAID FTP Server to the internet? Not recommended.

Why?  Isn't that what the unRAID option is there for?  It isn't like it is truly wide open.  Someone would still need credentials to gain access.

Unraid is not at all hardened to be used in such a way, if you keep it like that you will get in trouble, you will most likely get hacked..

If you need to access your system set up a vpn server.. that will make it safe..

So is the embedded FTP with unRAID really meant to only be used on a local network?
