Access to SMB not working with server name different to 'Tower'

Featured Replies

I upgraded from version 5.0 and all went fine except I could not access the shares, after trying many things I ended up renaming the server back to 'tower' then access worked again. I changed it back to 'KOTIK' and access fails again so I am having to stick with tower for now. I am also having issues loading the latest version of Plex but have posted into their forums about that.

The network name is used to find out the IP address of your server.    If it changing it causes problems then there is almost certainly some sort of networking issue that is external to unRAID itself that is causing the name lookup to fail.

Does trying the IP address work OK?

Chances are that your client device may be caching the old IP address of the DNS name to KOTIK.  As itimpi mentioned, it is most likely a local network issue (not unRAID).  A few things to try:

  • you can try to use the IP address to access the system while it's hostname is set to kotik and see if that works (if so, you know that it's not the server that's causing the issue)
  • you can try to access kotik from a new device (try a mobile phone / tablet / other laptop / other pc) and see if that works
  • from your windows PC (if that's the device you're using to connect), you can open a command prompt and type "net use * /delete" (only type the part in quotes).

Let us know if issues persist...
