December 9, 201411 yr Hi All, I been running unraid for about 7 years now, have never had a problem with it. The time has come to build a new one with updated hardware. I think i am sold on a HP MicroServer Gen8 (http://www8.hp.com/au/en/products/proliant-servers/product-detail.html?oid=5379860) The only downfall is the 4 drive bays. I am wanting to add a USB 3.0 4 bay drive external enclosure (http://www.hotway.com.tw/portfolio/portfolio-ajax/hf2-su3s2/) Can anyone offer some advice on the setup I am looking at or any other options that I might have over looked (that are available in Australia). Thanks in advanced, Craig
December 9, 201411 yr Can't comment on the usb3 part but I know from using an esata enclosure (similar transfer speeds?) That once I have 2 or more drives in operation, for a parity check for example, the speed of those drives halves. May be an issue for you if accessing multiple drives at the same time on the enclosure. The other risk is if that usb3 cable from the server to enclosure is in a vulnerable place, I.e. it could get knocked out
December 11, 201411 yr ... I am wanting to add a USB 3.0 4 bay drive external enclosure (http://www.hotway.com.tw/portfolio/portfolio-ajax/hf2-su3s2/) ... As far as I know, unRAID does not support USB 3.0.

I was thinking about external USB enclosure as of out-of-array storage... inertia of thoughts. (If inertia of my thoughts is HUGE, doesn't it mean that my thoughts are at least BIG? )
December 23, 201411 yr Author Hi All, I finally made a decision on what I was going to do. I ended up building my own, I always thought it would come down to that as I was never 100% happy with what i was finding. What I got: Case: SilverStone 8 Bay NAS http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_1290_608&products_id=26841 Motherboard: Gigabyte H97N-WIFI http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4992#ov Memory: 2 x 2048 MB, 1600 MHz Processor: Intel® Pentium® CPU G3450 @ 3.40GHz Cache: Kingston SandForce 120GB SSD I plan on adding a SAS card early next year. What type I am unsure on, still researching. Craig
