December 13, 201411 yr Sorry if this has been posted before. I tried to search but couldnt find anything specific. I currently have an unraid 5 box and a gaming PC. I want to merge the two with unraid 6/xen on the gaming PC hardware. I just want to know if there is a way to convery the gaming PC SSD into a VM image, or must it be created again from scratch? Thanks!
December 13, 201411 yr I cannot answer your question directly but from my many years of messing with computers you really should just rebuilt from scratch. The VM will run much faster due to there not being as much bloat and chances are if it is possible to convert a windows box to a VM something wont translate right. Just spend the 4 hours installing from scratch, it is time well spent.
December 15, 201411 yr Vmware makes a tool for this purpose but like archedraft said it is best to install from scratch.

Thanks! Is it possible? Yes. I've done it and with really good results. Is it easy? Not yet. Requires the injection of virtualization drivers. It also will require you to reactivate you windows license as the hardware config will change. My advice for now is to start from a fresh install as a VM.
